Meet Our Team

Maria Ycaza

DIRECTOR

Welcome to Key Point Academy Coral Gables!

My name is Maria del Rocio Ycaza and I am the director of Key Point Academy Coral Gables. I was born and raised in Guayaquil, Ecuador and immigrated to Miami, Florida in 2020. I am a wife and proud mother of three children; Richard 27, Natalie 24 and Valerie 21. During my free time, I love to play sports, go to the beach, read and spend time with friends and family.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s in Pedagogy. During my first years as a professional, I worked in the administrative field for various companies. In 2006, I was invited to join a team of educators in the development and launching of a school project that began with 150 students and grew to 1500 in a 10-year span. I remained working there until my relocation to Miami in 2020 when I had the joy of joining the Key Point Academy family.

As an educator, I am a strong believer in the opportunity we have to help children flourish and our role to accompany parents in facilitating confidence, respect and care. I believe in every child as an individual with a unique mission to make this world a better place!

Karen Herrera

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR

My name is Karen Herrera and I am privileged to serve as the Assistant Director at Key Point Academy Coral Gables.

I was born in Miami, Florida and have a Nicaraguan heritage. I have a little one of my own, her name is Camila. I was honored to see her graduate from KPA Coral Gables, the place she called home. This place is more than just a preschool, it is a community that I am privileged to be part of since it first opened its doors in 2015.

My passion for nurturing young minds started at a very young age. I currently hold an International Child Development Associates as well as more than 10 years of experience in the field working with students of different ages (from toddlers through 5 years old). During this time, I have discovered the great impact that education has on the first 5 years of life.

Dedication and enthusiasm are two characteristics that I consider essential in the work with young children. My goal and mission has always been to work collaboratively with families in order to help all our students reach their full potential and develop an early love of learning!
